Dilemma 1/10/09

You have the magical power to stop one and only one of the following two scenarios. Which would you prevent?

  1. The polar ice caps melt.
  2. Gas goes to and stays at $15 gallon.

I prevent the ice caps from melting. High gas prices would just encourage people to drive less and actually commit to developing alternative fuel sources. Wouldn't be the end of the world (despite all the whining we'd have to endure).

Prevent the ice cap from melting ... that would likely signal the end of the world as we know it. Gas at $15 per gallon might actually improve things.

Is there really a dilemma here? The ice caps win out over the gas prices any day. If you have no planet it won't matter what the gas prices are. You'll be dead and won't need to go anywhere.
