Dilemma 1/26/09

You have the magical power to stop one and only one of the following two scenarios. Which would you prevent?

1. Your child hangs out with people that you think are very dangerous.
2. Your child participates in activities that you think are very dangerous.

Don't parents always think everything is too dangerous for their kids? ;-) Well, let's see. I think I'd prevent #1. #2 seems more like over-protectiveness (lots of ordinary activities have risks attached), whereas with #1, the parent might actually have better instincts about the motives of the Very Dangerous People than the child.

I think I'd have greater chance of being wrong on #1. Besides, it's not people but actions that cause harm. So I'd stop #2.
