I'll save myself the pain and trauma of a broken leg and broken arm. The drunk driver deserves what he or she gets.
This was not a difficult one for me.
I briefly considered allowing Option 1 to happen (hmm, no one else dies, predictable consequences, etc.) but on reflection, there were too many "what ifs" involved. I don't know if this person was a chronic offender or if this was a one-time thing, etc. Everyone makes mistakes and death as a consequence seems a bit harsh. So I'd prevent Option 1, which means broken arm/leg for me (I've never broken anything so this would be hard).
Hrm. My initial thought is that I'd pick the broken arm & leg b/c those will heal. But I have to consider the fact that as of today, I'm caring for two small children and my husband, who needs 3x/day medical attention.
So for me it's not a matter of doling out justice or something but that my being out of commission would be detrimental to my family.
If I could stagger the arm & leg (not have both broken at the same time) or if both were the left side, that would factor into my decision. But given just this info, I'd have to prevent my own injury.
One. I don't necessarily think the drunk driver deserves to die, but I'm still going to put myself before a stranger -- and I would even if the driver wasn't drunk.
I mean, of course, I'd let the first thing happen and prevent the second thing.
The drunk driver is going to die if I don't stop it. It's a no-brainer. I can't just let that happen. This is a human life. I'll take the fractures. Broken bones are more of an inconvenience than pain and trauma after the first few minutes. Only someone who has never driven drunk can afford to be righteous on this one. Be honest, peeps.
I'm with Sparky. Suicide by stupidity is not my problem.
Grapes, I can say with 100% honesty that I've never driven drunk. I don't drive at all. Therefore, I stand by my suicide by stupidity comment.
It doesn't matter to me if the drunk driver is a chronic offender or a first timer. Doesn't even matter if it's someone's 16 year old kid. Every single person knows it's wrong. They know it's stupid. They know it's dangerous. They know it's gambling with lives. They deserve the death if they've bought a ticket in the lottery.
