I agree with Eden. I'd prevent #1. The oldest "inhabitant" may or may not be a person (probably a tree, if you count plants as inhabitants; perhaps a tortoise otherwise) but regardless, if it's the oldest, it's had a good long life, undoubtedly one longer than the expected lifespan for its species, and thus death is both natural and not unexpected.
