Dilemma 4/14/09
Ah, fill the Cup: -- what boots it to repeat
How Time is slipping underneath our Feet:
Unborn To-morrow, and dead Yesterday,
Why fret about them if To-day be sweet!
--Omar Khayyam
You have the magical power to stop one and only one of the following two scenarios. Which would you prevent?
1. You are unable to remember anything that happened before each current day.
2. You are unable to forget anything.

I normally cannot decide, but this one is easy. I'd choose to not forget. Perfect memory, for all the pain it would entail, is much preferable to perfect forgetfulness.
"The universe winds down. That’s how it’s made.
But memory is everything to lose;
Although some of the colors have to fade,
Do not believe you’ll get the chance to choose."
--John M. Ford, "Against Entropy"
Prevent #1. Makes for a good story, but would simply be debilitating in real life. #2 would undoubtedly result in some insomnia, but at least you'd make an awesome witness, should the need arise! ;-)
