Dilemma 4/2/09

April is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.

--T. S. Eliot

You have the magical power to stop one and only one of the following two scenarios. Which would you prevent?

1. Lilacs that are bioengineered to glow in the dark accidentally crossbreed with normal lilacs until there are almost no normal lilac plants left.
2. Potatoes that are bioengineered to produce an important vaccine accidentally crossbreed with normal potatoes until there are almost no normal potatoes left.

I like lilacs but I like a baked potato more ;)

So, hmm. In scenario 1, we are left with lilacs that glow in the dark, and in scenario 2, we are left with potatoes that produce an important vaccine. Presumably we can still enjoy the lilacs and eat the potatoes regardless of their new qualities. So... prevent neither, I guess.
