Dilemma 2/3/09

You have the magical power to stop one and only one of the following two scenarios. Which would you prevent?

1. A doctor on the verge of curing cancer dies.
2. A young child in a refugee camp dies.

I stop #1 b/c I think it would affect an infinite number of people and would prevent other deaths.

Of course we all have to go somehow, don't we? Once we cure cancer, where will we focus next?

I agree with Eden; prevent #1. Of course, it doesn't say that the doctor does cure cancer, only that s/he's on the verge of it, but if s/he doesn't die, presumably s/he will be able to. And... maybe the child in the refugee camp actually dies of cancer, so by saving the doctor, we also save the child.
