2. A Wal-Mart opens in your neighborhood.

Wow, that is a dilemma. I think I'd stop the Walmart, if only because of the traffic.
We already have a Wal*Mart, so I'd have to stop a second one of those, and my daughter needs a part-time job, so the strip-joint sounds like a good idea. :)
Honestly... the Wal-Mart.
The strip joint isn't going to shut down other businesses in town. It isn't going to leave people out of work. And the strip joint only is open (in most cases) while many of us are sleeping.
Plus... let's consider traffic volumes through town. Which will cause more? Wal-Mart.
Which will cause more crime? Wal-Mart because it is larger and will attract a lot more people.
People don't like strip clubs because they are bothered by the thought of men paying to see women dance.
But the Wal-Mart is what truly will shape the minds of the youngsters in town, as it markets to them to shop there for cheap stuff.
I'd never protest a strip club. A Wal-Mart, yes.
I've thought about this one a lot.
Both have a moral argument to make.
Both help the tax base, in general (although WalMart usually gets deferments & such).
Overall, while the WalMart would bring more (low paying) jobs, it would put under several small businesses in this town, eliminating jobs, other source of tax income, options for people here as consumers, etc.
The strip club would have no competition & likely wouldn't bother anyone except some prudes no one here would listen to anyway.
So on my own dilemma, I stop #2.
My word verifcation is "ankle" btw.
Actually, the Wal-Mart would take whatever tax perks it can extort for moving in, then carefully avoid paying taxes thereafter. See "The High Cost of Low Price" and you'll want to make cookies for the strippers.
I'm sure my neighborhood already has a "strip joint." I'll prevent #2.
