I'm tempted to pick neither b/c I don't think immortality would be a blessing. But then both happen...
I think if I put it in these terms, I can pick: chose for myself or chose for someone else. I'll make a choice for myself (prevent #2) and I'll take the emotional pain of watching everyone else go rather than foist it on my child.

Prevent #1, I suppose, since (w/o a child to consider the fate of) that would just maintain the status quo.
