For me, the ability to read is one I cannot fathom living without. If I can't work with numbers, it's bad, but life goes on.I'd prevent #1.
I'll prevent #1. It would be really hard just in general to be unable to read (let alone all the specific things that I do that require reading). #2 would be irritating, but lots of really smart people tell me it's possible, so... ;-)
